An hydraulic actuating cylinder comprises a piston (16,53) which is axially displaceable in sealed sliding contact with an associated bore (15, 70) to define a working chamber on one side of the piston. The piston seal (16, 71) is made from plastics material which is radially outwardly biased against the associated bore by a resilient insert (35, 72) which is a forced fit in a recess (36, 73) in the piston. The piston may also be made from plastics material and the seal may be formed integrally with the piston. The insert may be of elastomeric material or can be made from resilient metal. <IMAGE> |
