An inlet awning device is disclosed, used to deflect the flow of a liq. supply away from a hot gas inlet in e.g. flue gas scrubbers in power stations. The device helps prevent solids build-up around the inlet. The inlet awning (50) (Fig.6) has a horizontal lower surface (52) and an inclined upper surface (54), and is attached to the inner wall of the scrubber housing (14) at the point where the hot gas inlet (19) enters the scrubber . The awning is used to deflect liq. slurry (30), falling from above, away from the inlet. It also forms a falling curtain (40) of slurry through which the hot gas (16) must pass. This gives immediate cooling and saturation of the gas. The top surface of the awning should be large enough to collect a large amount of the slurry and distribute it into the curtain. At the tip (56), or outer edge, of the awning where the two surfaces join, an outward extension protrudes past the edge to form a lip which prevents slurry from flowing along the bottom surface of the awning. This keeps the surface dry and prevents build-up of solids (caused by evapn. of slurry) on it. A weir plate (48') may also be provided on the upper surface, this should be spaced from the tip and have a gap under its lower edge through which the slurry flows.
|
