The current conductor used in an electrical distribution network includes an elongate profiled metal rail. In cross-section, the rail includes a central spine (36) with two cross rails supporting two contact faces (50). Each contact face includes a T-section channel formed within it, such that the head of a bolt can be retained within the channel for attachment of another conductor. A shallow depression is formed on a part of the surface of the conductor. This then receives a thin layer of paint to identify the conductor.
