<p>A media sheet pick and feed system includes a pick roller shaft (62) that is mounted for rotation and a media sheet tray which supports a stack of media sheets (50) on a support surface (52). The support surface (52) is separated from the pick roller shaft (62) by a fixed distance during pick operations. An arm structure (56, 58, 60, 64, 66) is coupled to and extends from the pick roller shaft (62) and includes a pick roller (56) that is geared to the pick roller shaft (62). A drive motor (90) having first and second directions of rotation is couplable via a clutch (68, 70, 72, 74) to the pick roller shaft (62). During a driven state, the drive motor (90), through the clutch (68, 70, 72, 74), causes the pick roller shaft (62) to rotate and operate the pick roller (56). The clutch mechanism (68, 70, 72, 74) in the non-driven state is uncoupled from the pick roller shaft (62) and enables the pick roller (56) to free wheel while it still remains in contact with a media sheet (54) being fed.
