In a painting installation for motor vehicle coachwork (2) with a number of successive coating stations, an automatic coachwork cleaning device (3) is arranged between at least two (1, 4) of the coating stations. It is of particular advantage to arrange such a cleaning device (3) after an undersealing station (1) so that especially the fine PVC particles adhering to the sides of the coachwork owing to overspray while spraying PVC material are removed again. The measure of the invention optimises the painting installation and increases efficiency.
