System for painting on video images, using a stylus and digitising table as input. The stylus position coordinates and a signal representing the stylus tip-pressure are input to the processing units. The diameter of the pen or brush (and hence the width of the brush-stroke) is varied according to the stylus tip-pressure. Processing units (5,7) also calculate a soft-edge effect for the brush-stroke; the extent of this edge-smoothing or anti-aliassing is dependent on the pen or brush diameter.
