The pneumatic flotation of salt mixtures wherein fresh pulp 5 is intoduced into a separation chamber 1 by means of air 6 to form a gassed pulp in the form of a free jet 7a enclosed in a guide column or pipe 8, is modified in that thinner pulp is introduced into the bottom of the jet through aperture 9. The upper end of the jet is supported by an air cushion supplied by air nozzles 10.
