PURPOSE:To embody the excellent reproducibility of a fine line and stably obtain uniform density in a highlight part by using a collective heat generation type thermal head constituted so that the heat value per a unit area of the specific part of a heating resistor is made higher than that of the peripheral part thereof and the specific part generates heat collectively. CONSTITUTION:A thermal transfer sheet wherein a dye layer containing a thermal transfer dye is provided on at least one surface of a base material sheet and a receiving sheet are brought to a pressure contact state between a thermal head and a platen and the energy corresponding to image data is applied to the thermal head to generate heat and the thermal transfer dye contained in the dye layer is transferred to the receiving sheet to form an image on the receiving sheet. In the thermal transfer recording method, a collective heat generation type thermal head constituted so that the heat value per a unit area of the specific part of a heating resistor is made higher than that of the peripheral part thereof and the specific part generates heat collectively is used.
