PURPOSE:To obtain the subject enzymes useful as labeled oxidases catalyzing a color reaction with melanin or for detecting a very small amount of a fungus or a microorganism comprising beta-1,3-G or PG as a constituent component of a cell wall. CONSTITUTION:This prophenol oxidase or phenol oxidase has an amino acid sequence at least substantially of the formula. A host cell transformed with a recombinant vector containing a gene DNA encoding this enzyme is cultured in a medium to give the objective prophenol oxidase or phenol oxidase.
