[Also in Group XXXIX] A co-ordinate switching array comprises n sets of m soft iron cores 10 having n members 11 ... 13 adjustable to saturate m-1 of the cores. As shown, the members 11 ... 13 are troughshaped permanent magnets, all m-1 cores lying in the trough, the remaining core however lying between notches in the sides of the trough so that it is not saturated and is therefore capable of transmitting by transformer action a pulse from (say) lead 1 to lead C. The troughs are slidable so that the notches may be opposite any of the m cores. In use in an arrangement for transmitting numbers the sliders 11 ... 13 are set in accordance with the values of successive denominations and the conductors 0 ... 9 are pulses successively. Conductors A ... C thus receive pulses in time positions denoting the value of the digits of the associated denominations. In a second embodiment, Fig. 5, the arrangement is used to allocate an incoming number of different decimal positions. Thus an incoming number, say 521, represented in this case by trains of pulses is applied to leads A, B, C, and with the slides positioned so that transformer action takes place at the ringed points, the respective digits are taken out in positions B, C, D. With such an arrangement, the three sliders may be unified into a single assembly. |
