For the production of surface covering elements of hardened wood, consisting of elongate, thin, flat pieces of solid wood, having a fibre direction substantially parallel to their longitudinal direction and hardened through strong compression thereof in the direction of their width, a method is utilized, wherein a plurality of such elements are produced simultaneously by subjecting an elongate blank (10) of wood, having a generally square or rectangular cross-section, to a strong compression in a direction (B) transversal to the longitudinal direction thereof. The blank (10) may either consist of a single continuous piece of wood which, following said compression, is divided up along planes, substantially parallel to the direction (B) of said compression and located at a short distance from each other, or may the blank (10) be formed by a plurality of previously produced separate elongate, thin, flat pieces of wood, the thin edge surfaces of which form said two opposite sides of the blank (10). |
