A method and a device for inserting a metering member (3) with a cylindrical body (4) into a container (1) with a cylindrical neck (2), said container containing a substance to be dispensed. The outer diameter of said metering member body (4) is slightly smaller than the inner diameter of said neck (2) of the container (1), and said metering member body (4) is held securely in the neck (2) by means of a cylindrical thimble (6) with an outer diameter slightly larger than the inner diameter of the metering member body (4), said thimble (6) being force fitted in the body (4) of the metering member (3) at the neck (2) of the container (1).
