The tibial implant consists of a tibial plate (1) of polyethylene and a metal base (2). The rear portion of the plate has a projection (1c) which is designed to clip together with a matching recess in the base, while its front edge has a lip (1d) which is able to deform elastically and engage with corresponding portions of the base. The underside of the plate has a recess to receive a projection on the base, and it also has a peripheral groove (1b) to engage with the base's outer edge. The recess in the underside of the plate and the corresponding projection on the base are straight in shape and lie perpendicular to and symmetrically with the median axes of the plate and base. In addition, the base is fixed to a stabilising and anchoring member and has holes for fixing screws.
