<p>A soft x-ray imaging device having a housing (12) defining a housing chamber (36). A faceplate (26) having a planar surface (28) is secured to the housing so that the planar surface is within the housing. A phosphorus coating (42) is applied to the planar surface for converting electrons to visible light. A microchannel plate (54) is spaced from and parallel to the planar surface of the faceplate. An opening (24) is formed in the housing in alignment with the microchannel plate and sealed by a window (34) which is substantially transparent to soft x-rays. The space between the window and the faceplate is evacuated using a pump (86). The microchannel plate is secured in place and powered by two annular electrodes (44, 56) wherein one of the electrodes (56) is an annular cylindrical spring.</p> |
