A grading device includes an assembly drum(58) with feeding grooves(136), and a grading drum(60) arranged adjacent to the assembly drum(58) and rotating in the opposite direction from that of the assembly drum(58) at a twice peripheral speed. The grading drum(60) has a pair of groove arrays which have grading grooves(213) with a pitch twice that of feeding grooves(136) on the assembly drum(58). The grading grooves(213) of adjacent arrays are shifted from each other by a half pitch. The grading device further includes a pair of fork claws(224) for holding a pair of charcoal plugs(CF2) received in the feeding groove(136) in cooperation with the outer peripheral surface of the grading drum(60) when the paired charcoal plugs(CF2) on the assembly drum(58) pass by the grading drum(60), thereby the paired charcoal plugs(CF2) being put into the corresponding grading groove(213) while rolling on the grading drum(60). <IMAGE>
