Controlling conditional branch instructions in parallel processing system

The parallel processing system has a number of units for generating parallel data streams and the processors are coupled to a single program counter-based control unit. The program counter (PC) is coupled to a unit (53) that controls conditioned branch operations. This has a PC controller (55), a stack pointer (57) and a processor (PE) mask control unit (59). The units are coupled to a cycle controller (51). Selection stages (65,73) provide specific output selection from the pc stack and the mask stack to change the programme counter address.
