Described is a multi-layer laminated ink jet print head composed of (a) a nozzle plate 20 having at least one pair of rows 21, 22 of nozzles; (b) a manifold plate 15 having at least one pair of apertures 10, 11 defining ink manifolds, and having respective rows 16, 17 of ink-conducting orifices in registry with the rows 21, 22 of nozzles; (c) an ink-distributor plate 7 having a respective row 12, 13 of orifices in registry with each of the manifolds for delivering ink upwardly therefrom, and respective rows 8, 9 of ink-conducting orifices in registry with the rows of nozzles 21, 22; (d) an ink-chamber plate 2 having two side by side similar arrays 3, 4 of elongate apertures (Fig 3) which define the ink-chambers; wherein the chambers of one array are located so as to receive ink from one manifold 10 via orifice row 12, and to deliver ink to nozzles 21 via orifice rows 8 and 16, and the chambers of the other array deliver ink from manifold 11 to nozzles 22 in a similar manner; (e) an actuator plate 5 bearing an array of elongate piezoelectric actuators 6, each actuator having one end overlying a respective chamber of one array 3 of ink-chambers, and having the other end overlying the corresponding chamber of the other array 4 of ink-chambers, and characterised in that:- whereas the ends of the actuators 6d, 6e are addressed by respective control electrodes (not shown in Fig 3), all actuators 6 of an array are electrically grounded at a location 6c between their ends to a common central lead-out electrode (not shown in Fig 3) which is in general registry with the separation zone between the arrays 3, 4 of ink-chambers. As shown, the ink chamber arrays 3, 4 are slightly staggered, and in consequence the actuators 6 are kinked where they meet the ground electrode at 6c.
