An insert (1) for a drinks container (not shown) comprises a base (2), sidewall (3) circumferentially extending around said base, and a top (4) which has an orifice (5) formed therein. A patch (6) is hermetically sealed across the top (4) of the insert (1) so that under normal conditions the atmosphere within the insert is prevented from communicating with any surrounding atmosphere. The patch (6) comprises a first sheet (7) having an orifice (8) and a second sheet (9) having an orifice (10). In normal conditions, the patch (6) is in hermetically sealed to the insert (1) such that the orifice (5) is in communication with the space (S1) of the insert (1) by means of the orifice (8) and the first sheet (7). When the equilibrium within the drink container is disturbed, there is a sudden and rapid drop in pressure of the atmosphere immediately surrounding the insert which causes the atmosphere within the insert to flow from the insert via the orifice (5) and the orifice (8) into space (S1). Consequently, the space (S1) in the patch inflates exerting a pressure upon the transverse band dividing the spaces (S1) and (S2) of the patch which causes the two sheets (7) and (9) of the patch to peel apart from one another and eventually the spaces (S1) and (S2) become conjoined to form a single space. As a direct consequence of this, the atmosphere in the insert (1) is in direct communication with the surrounding atmosphere, i.e. the beverage in the drinks container and the atmosphere within the insert (1) will flow through the orifice (5), orifice (8), the spaces (S1) and (S2) and via orifice (10) into the beverage so provoking the desired effect therein.
|
