Recorder using magneto-optical disc

The recorder contains a rotating plate (1) and a head unit (5) with a magnetic head (6) whose head play is at a distance (d) from the surface of the plate. The head unit has electrodes (S1,S2) opposite the plate surface and connected to an arrangement (7) for measuring the capacitance (C).A control parameter (Uc) derived from the measured capacitance is used to control the separation distance of the head mirror and plate surface via a controller (8). The control parameter can regulate the position of the head unit w.r.t. the recorder's chassis.
