Electric lamp

An electric lamp bulb has two filaments in parallel, a main and a subsidiary filament. The subsidiary filament has a lower power output than the main filament and a lower colour temperature. Both filaments have a centre tap, and both of these are connected electrically. If the high output main filament breaks, the lamp will still operate at lower power on the other filament, and the failure is easily recognised.
