A depowering apparatus for controlling selection and deselection of devices such as a pair of torque motors (1, 1 min ) comprises two channels. Each channel has a normally open switch (3, 3 min ) in series with a normally closed switch (4, 4 min ) connecting a power supply line (5, 5 min ) to the torque motor (1, 1 min ). A control circuit (9, 11, 9 min , 11 min ) in each channel closes the normally open switch (3, 3 min ) of that channel and opens the normally closed switch (4, 4 min ) of the other channel in response to a channel select signal (TLIC, TLIC min ) so as to ensure that each of the torque motors (1, 1 min ) can be depowered to allow the other to take control.
