The tool has a pair of cooperating clamp jaws (121, 131), each with a projection (41, 42) at its free end, projecting in the direction of the other clamp jaw. The projections are offset relative to one another, to define a planar intermediate space between them, with a limited overlap between the projections in the open position of the jaws. The inside face of the projections on either side of the intermediate space are serrated, for frictional engagement with the inserted conductor end, so that it is twisted as the jaws are operated.
