A method for making arthropodicidal oxadiazines and intermediates which are racemic or enantiomerically enriched at their chiral center, the method for making the oxadiazines comprising reaction of an intermediate selected from (II) or (IIa), wherein: R<1> is F, Cl, or C1-C3 fluoroalkoxy, R<2> is C1-C3 alkyl and R<4> is H or CO2CH2(C6H5), as well as certain selected intermediates including those depicted above, and methods of making them.
