The key has a grip disc or similar, a key shaft with two side surfaces, a face surface and an under side, together with retention means for the bore troughs working in conjunction with the lock. A blank of the customary cylinder flat key on its face surface has bore troughs and is usable in a cylinder having notches running vertical to the longitudinal axis.At least one of the side surfaces (6, 7) of the key shaft has a profiling (11, 12) which corresponds to that of a blank of a customary cylinder flat key for the same cylinder. The profiling extends in the area of the bore troughs. The retention means (19, 21, 22) are of the pin type with conical points.
