A vacuum is directed onto the carrier strip (1) over its whole width by a device located at right angles to the running direction of the carrier strip and in such a way that the label material strip (2) is lifted from the carrier strip, while the stamped out labels (5) remain on the carrier strip. The label material is then directed away from the carrier strip.The effective areas of the vacuum are directed on the carrier strip so that they only pass over the areas in which the label material strip lies with the majority of its area opposite the labels.
