An air conditioning system has a compressor, a liquefier, a collector-dryer and an evaporator connected to the former by an expansion valve. The compressor has two units, one driven by the engine and a parallel one driven by an electric motor fed from an auxiliary battery. There is a non-return valve on the pressure side of both units.
