The invention relates to an apparatus for processing waste filter cartridges which comprises a frame and a drivable auxiliary frame mounted in the frame so as to be rotatable about an axis. A cutting head is mounted thereon so as to be displaceable along the axis, said cutting head having a support for supporting a filter cartridge coaxially with the axis, the cutting head being displaceable along the axis against a spring force between a start position and an end position. The cutting head carries cutting members which can be moved towards the axis and are provided with guide members which engage with guides which extend convergently from a position near the start position to a position near the end position. The apparatus further comprises a push mount with clamping means for clamping a filter cartridge into position and drive means for forcing the filter cartridge against the support and then forcing the support from the start position towards the end position.
