PURPOSE:To prevent soiling of a transfer material and also to prevent unsatisfactory transfer, which is caused by an insufficiency of transfer bias, by removing the soiling of a transfer member even in a case the transfer material whose size is smaller than an image size in image formation is erroneously used. CONSTITUTION:Before the transfer material 9 is fed to a transfer part N, the width and length of the transfer material 9 are detected by a detection part 13, and the result is inputted to a control part 14 which controls conditions under which a transfer roller is cleaned. When the result of the detection does not match the size of the specified paper, the length of time that a cleaning bias is applied is extended. Thus, because the soiling of the transfer member is removed, soiling of the back of the transfer material is prevented, and unsatisfactory transfer due to an insufficiency of transfer bias can be prevented. |
