PURPOSE:An excess amount of a phenol, sulfur, a dihydirc alcohol and an alkaline earth reagent are made to react and then treat with carbon dioxide to produce titled compound with high basicity in high yield. CONSTITUTION:A phenol that has 4-36 carbon atoms and is liquid at 130 deg.C, sulfur, dihydric alcohol such as ethylene glycol and 0.09-0.001, preferably 0.98-0.01 gram equivalent, per gram equivalent of the phenol, of an alkaline earth metal oxide or hydroxide are reacted at 60-200 deg.C. Then the product is treated with carbon dioxide in a diluent with high boiling point and adequate viscosity at 50-230 deg.C and the remaining phenol is destilled off to afford objective liquid compound. The recovered phenol is reused as the starting material. USE:Detergents for lubricant or fuel oils or alkali detergents. |
