The invention relates to a drive mechanism for a bottom valve of the WC bowl flushing cistern, the mechanism comprising an elongated arm 6 passing through the cistern cover 7, the upper end of which arm has a pull knob 5 and the lower end an element engaging in the bottom valve, pulling the pull knob 5 to its upper position essentially causing the flushing cistern to discharge essentially its entire content. The mechanism furthermore comprises a second pull knob 4, which is designed to lift the arm 6 by means of the first pull knob 5, and elements arranged on the cistern cover 7 in order to limit the movement of the second pull knob 4, so that the arm 6 rises when the second pull knob 4 is pulled by means of the first pull knob 5, but only into a slightly opened position of the bottom valve, as a result of which the bottom valve is closed immediately when the pull knobs 4, 5 are released thereby only partially emptying the flushing cistern. <IMAGE>
