PURPOSE: To manufacture a vertical magnetic head forming complete compatibility between a substrate and a non-magnetic spacer by preparing the spacer determining a head gap of the same material as the substrate. CONSTITUTION: An indentation 58, in which depth is limited, is formed into a head gap region for obtaining a magnetic circuit first, a thin material layer 60 capable of constituting a mask is formed into the indentation 58. When the layer 60 is left as it is along the vertical wall 63 of the indentation 58, the layer 60 is removed by a part of the bottom of the indentation 58. A mask 66 is determined by an opening section, and the indentation 58 and a substrate are moved freely by the opening section on the side face of the vertical wall 63 covered with a thin layer 62. Indentations 70, 72 formed by etching are filled with a magnetic material. Accordingly, two pole pieces 80, 82 are separated by a wall 68, and a non-magnetic spacer is formed. |
