PURPOSE:To provide a new compound AM5221 or its salt exhibiting excellent NGF-production promoting action and useful as an agent for the treatment of e.g. Alzheimer-type senile dementia, Huntington's chorea, diabetic peripheral nervous disorder, etc. CONSTITUTION:This new compound AM522l is a compound expressed by formula I (R is H or methyl) or its salt, e.g. AM5221A of formula II and AM5221B of formula III. The new compound AMl5221 of formula I or its salt can be produced by culturing a microbial, strain belonging to the genus Phialocephala and capable of producing the compound AM5221 and collecting the compound AM522l from the cultured product. The microbial, strain belonging to the genus Phialocephala and capable of producing the compound AMI5221 is Phialocephala humicola M5221 (FERM P-14279). The new compound AM522l of formula I or its salt is used as an active component of an agent for promoting the production of nerve growth factor. The compound is useful also as an agent for the treatment of peripheral. nerve injury, spinal injury and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, an agent for improving cerebral metabolism or an agent for improving peripheral nerve disorder. |
