PURPOSE:To provide a recording device and a reproducing device where the picture recorded in a recording medium has a high secrecy. CONSTITUTION:An electronic still camera 1 is provided with an image pickup part, a signal processing circuit 7, an enciphering means 8, changeover switches 9 and 10, a control means 13, a recording and reading-out part 14, a deciphering means 15, changeover switches 16 and 17, and an output circuit 20. The enciphering means 8 has plural enciphering circuits 81 to 8n, and the deciphering means 15 has plural deciphering circuits 151 to 15n. A release switch 21, a reproducing switch 22, an enciphering changeover switch 23, and an enciphering circuit selecting switch 24 are connected to the control means 13. When the picture signal is enciphered ana recorded, it is enciphered by the enciphering circuit selected by the enciphering circuit selecting switch 24 at the time of recording, and a deciphering circuit corresponding to the ciphering circuit used for enciphering is selected based on enciphering discrimination information and the signal is deciphered by this deciphering circuit and is reproduced at the time of reproducing. |
