PURPOSE:To eliminate the influence of flare with simple constitution in an optical scanning system image reader and image recorder. CONSTITUTION:In this image reader; a recording material 10 where an image is recorded is scanned by a light beam for reading 13, and emitted light 19 from the recording material 10 having different wavelength from the light beam 13 is photoelectrically detected by a photodetector 21, so that the recorded image is read. Then, a sheet 30 consisting of photochromic material increasing transmissivity by receiving the light beam 13 and decreasing the transmissivity by receiving the emitted light 19 is arranged at a position where the light beam 13 is received in a state where it comes close to or in contact with the recording material 10 and the photodetector 21 is disposed to receive the emitted light 19 through the sheet 30.
