The invention relates to a seal construction for a suction box of a suction roll in a paper machine. The seal construction comprises a holder 11 in the shape of an open U facing the inner surface 3 of the roll shell, a seal 12, which is mounted in the holder and which lies in the axial direction of the roll and which can be moved towards and away from the inner surface 3 of the roll shell, and loading elements 25, by means of which the seal 12 can be moved in the holder 11 towards the inner surface 3 of the roll shell. In the invention the seal 12 is mounted so that in the holder 11 it essentially leans in relation to the essentially axially aligned shaft of the roll or corresponding direction 15, 16. In addition the second loading element 26 is mounted in the holder 11, with which the seal 12 can be inclined in relation to the said direction 15, 16 or the equivalent, when the effect of the first loading elements 25 is removed, in order to lock the seal 12 in place in the required position. The invention also relates to a method in the sealing operation of a suction roll. <IMAGE>
