The back rest comprises an elongated panel (1) made from any suitable material, e.g. moulded from plastics, having one end (3) in the shape of a spade to facilitate its penetration into the ground. The other end, left projecting above the ground, acts as a support for the back.The panel has an aperture (4) in it which is used both to insert a foot when pushing the panel into the ground, and as a hand grip for pulling it out again after use.
