<p>PURPOSE:To increase viscosity without reducing solid content by using smectite as a thickener and to improve suitability to coating and orientation and magnetic characteristics. CONSTITUTION:Smectite as an inorg. clay mineral is directly added as powder to a coating material for a magnetic recording medium. Since a significant thickening effect is produced, the viscosity of the coating material can easily be regulated to a prescribed value with little reduction of the solid concn. of an effective component for magnetic recording. The deterioration of the performance of a formed coating film due to the addition of a thickener is not caused because of a very small amt. of smectite added. Since smectite is an inorg. clay mineral, the water resistance of the coating film is not deteriorated.</p> |
