The wiper blade (4 & 5) is covered by a protective cover. When the wiper is not in use and the wiper arm is in its stowed position, it is protected by a housing (3). Before it is stowed away it is protected by a tubular case (5), which is formed in a rigid or semi-rigid material.The tubular case has a cross-section which is V-shaped and carries positional stops (9 & 10), which are shaped in the form of elbows and which extend out sideways from the case. The length of the stops is designed so as to ensure that the wiper blade is in the optimum position when the extremities (15 & 16) of the stop arms come into contact with a reference location (17) on the vehicle body.
