PURPOSE: To provide a slab waveguide laser stably operative in specified oscillation transition of CO2 molecules, by providing slab electrodes and resonator having at least a wavelength selective optical element inside. CONSTITUTION: The laser comprises mirrors 4, 5 and slab electrodes 6, 1; the front mirror is partly removed to pass a laser beam through a vacuum window 9, while the electrodes 6, 7 excite a laser gas to confine the laser beam one- dimensionally. The mirrors 4, 5 forming a confocal astable resonator make active only light components parallel to the electrode surface, and the resonator is formed in a direction perpendicular to the electrodes 6, 7 surfaces and designed to maximize the laser performance at desired wavelength. Thus, a wavelength selective optical element e.g. transmissive or reflective diffraction lattice, prism, or birefringent plate is disposed inside the laser resonator. |
