<p>PURPOSE:To give a self modulation function to a solid-state laser by a method wherein a laser medium consisting of a crystal, which is caused an electrostriction by an electric field, is held between one pair of modulation use electrodes and a slit for regulating the passage of a laser beam when the crystal is distorted is provided on the front surface of an output mirror. CONSTITUTION:A crystal 16, which is caused an electrostriction when being given an electric field, is used as a laser crystal and one pair of modulation use electrodes 1 7 and 18 are coated on the opposed side surfaces of the crystal 16. Moreover, a slit 22 for regulating the passage of a laser beam 12 when the crystal 16 is distorted is provided on the front surface of an output mirror 13. A voltage is applied to the one pair of the electrodes 1 7 and 18 from a modulation use power supply 20 and an electric field parallel to a z-axis is generated between the electrodes 17 and 18. Thereby, as the crystal 16 is distorted in the directions of an x-axis and a y-axis and the mirror 13 is slanted an optical axis 21 before the crystal 16 is distorted is shifted from an output axis of the beam 12 and the beam 12 is shielded by the slit 22, the beam 12 can be made to cause a pulse oscillation and the intensity of the beam 12 can be changed.</p> |
