Polyenic cpds. of formula (I) and their salts and optical and geometric isomers, are new. R1 = -CH3, -CH2-O-R9, -CH2-O-CO-R10 or -CO-R11; R2, R3, R5 = H or lower alkyl; R4 = H; R6 = H, 1-20C alkyl, -O-CH2-O-CH2-CH2-O-CH3 or -O-R13; or R4+R6 together with the adjacent benzene ring form a naphthalene ring; R7, R8 = (i) H, (ii) 1-20C alkyl, (iii) cycloaliphatic gp., (iv) -O-CH2-O-CH2-CH2-O-CH3, (v) -O-R13 or (vi) -S(O)nR13; provided that R7 and R8 are not (i), (iv), (v) or (vi) at the same time; R9 = H or lower alkyl; R10 = lower alkyl; R11 = (a) H, (b) lower alkyl, (c) -N(R')R" or (d) -OR12; R', R" = H, lower alkyl, mono- or poly-hydroxyalkyl, aryl (opt. substd.) or an amino acid, peptide or sugar residue or together form a heterocyclic gp.; R12 = H, 1-20C alkyl, alkenyl, mono- or poly-hydroxyalkyl or opt. substd. aryl or aralkyl, or a sugar, aminoacid or peptide residue; R13 = H or 1-20C alkyl; n = 0, 1 or 2. |
