PURPOSE: To minimize loss of light emitted from a discharge lamp so as to further heighten light emission efficiency of the discharge lamp by forming light reflecting layers for the end parts of tube bodies adjacent to a cap part of the discharge lamp. CONSTITUTION: This single ended low pressure mercury vapor discharge lamp 1 is provided with a discharge container 2 formed of at least two tube parts 3, 3' connected to each other, with an additive and gas filled therein, and a cap part 4 composed of a housing 11 and a connection part 10 formed to have a thread or a pin, and electrically and mechanically connectable to a lamp holder and formed to be mechanically connected to and brought into electric contact with the discharge container 2. Both end parts of the tube parts 3, 3' of the discharge container 2 adjacent to the cap part 4 are covered with light reflecting layers 12, 12 It is desirable that the light reflecting layers are 0.2-0.3μm in grain size and 2-10 mg/cm<2> in surface density. Titanium dioxide, for instance, is used for the light reflecting layers.
