<p>PURPOSE:To provide a nonlinear resistor excellent in withstand voltage characteristics and suitably employed in a high voltage arrester, along with the production method thereof and a residual stress measuring method. CONSTITUTION:A material principally comprising zinc oxide (ZnO) is fired to produce an element 1 and a high resistance layer 2, having a coefficient of thermal expansion different from that of the element 1, is formed on the side face of the element 1. Residual stress in the hoop direction is set in the range of -40-10MPa at a point, separated by 5mm inward from the end part of the element 1, by regulating the coefficient of thermal expansion of the high resistance layer 2. An electrode 3 is then formed by spraying aluminium onto the flat surface at the upper and lower end parts of the element 1 thus producing a nonlinear resistor.</p> |
