PURPOSE:To provide a garnet crystal waveguide which functions as a waveguide element endurable in practical use and has an amplifying action. CONSTITUTION:A Gd3Ga5O12 (GGG) monocrystal board 1 is used as a board to form a waveguide, and a garnet crystal film which has a lattice constant almost in the same with a board material and whose at least a part of gadolinium is substituted with the other sunstitutable rare earth element or yttrium and at least a part of gallium is substituted with aluminium, is used as a lower clad 2 and an upper clad 3, and a garnet crystal where several kinds of elements combined from Nd, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb and Lu are contained in a rare earth element and at least one or more kinds of elements selected from Mg, Ca or Sr are added and one or more kinds of elements selected from Ti, Zr, Hf or Ge are added, is used as a core layer 3 to shut up light. |
