PURPOSE:To restrain generation of hydrogen gas so as to enhance solution leakage resistance and improve an electric discharging characteristic even if non-hardening zinc is used by adding a specific compound into an alkaline electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:A battery is provided with a negative electrode 7 including powder of zinc or a zinc alloy and an alkaline electrolyte. A salicylic acid amide compound expressed by a formula I is added into the alkaline electrolyte. 20-45wt% solution of caustic alkali such as sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide is used as the alkaline electrolyte. where zinc oxide or the like may be saturated into the solution, as required. In the formula I, R represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl or alkoxy group of carbon number 1-12. |
