PURPOSE:To provide a waveguide type optical multiplexer by which both band widths of a checking area and a passing area are widely secured at the same time. CONSTITUTION:Asymmetric waveguide type directional couplers 12 and 13 having characteristics of a joining rate (k1=0) in a wave length (lambda1) and a maximum joining rate (k2=1/2) in a wave length (lambda2), are connected in series in two stages to each other by conforming respective cores 15 and 16 to each other, and a waveguide type optical multiplexer 11 is constituted. The asymmetric waveguide type directional couplers 12 and 13 have a board 14, the two cores 15 and 16 arranged almost in parallel in close vicinity on this board 14 and a clad 17 to wrap these respective cores 15 and 16, and widths of the respective cores 15 and 16 are differently constituted. It is desirable that the board 14 is composed of SiO2, that the sores 15 and 16 are composed of SiO2-TiO2, and that the clad 17 is composed of SiO2-Ti2-B2O3-P2O5. |
