The mast has a series of sections which slide into each other (7, 13, 14, 15). The base section (7) is the largest and as the winch (61) on the base is used, the next section (13) is pulled out and this in turn pulls out the adjacent section (14). There is a second winch (62) which raises the base section (7) from a horizontal to a vertical position. The upper end of each of the sections (13, 14, 15) is attached to cables (9) which are the right length to support the mast when it is erected. Each of the sliding sections (13, 14, 15) has a pulley (131, 141) on its outer and upper edge through which a cable (11) passes. The cable is attached to the upper end of the lower section and to the lower edge of the upper adjacent section. The cable goes through a hole (132, 142, 152) and is attached to the lower section by a clamp. The mast can be circular or square.
