The device has at least two clamping elements (11,12) connected together by an adjustable setting spindle (13). The clamping elements are mounted displaceable on at least one guide element (10) and can be moved up to and away from each other by the setting spindle (13). Each tree stem (2) can be clamped between the two clamping elements.The setting spindle is mounted near the edge on each one half (39,40) of the clamping elements so that when clamping a tree stem the other halves (41,42) of the clamping elements relative to the stem move apart and press against the side faces of a guide allocated to each guide element thereby fixing the tension unit. The clamping elements are guided at the side by guide bolts (14-19) which project through bores (20-25) and through oblong holes (26-29) in the guide plate (10) below.
