The invention relates to a process for recognising vehicles and a device suitable for implementing it. The process and device are intended primarily as an anti-theft system in parking garages in order to prevent the egress of vehicles attempting to leave without the parking ticket (or other identifying object) with which they were driven into the area concerned (parking area or parking garage). The purpose of the invention is to provide additional security for the vehicles left in the parking area. Theft is to be made more difficult, if not completely impossible.
