The absorbent assembly (10) comprises a first layer (12) made from a non-absorbent fluid permeable material and a second layer (14) below said first layer (12). The second layer (14) is made from a substantially non-absorbent material. A third layer (16) is positioned below said second layer (14). The third layer (16) comprises fibres of hydrophilic and hydrophobic materials needled together so as to form a felt.
